Strategic Planning: The GPS of Organizations

Strategic planning can provide enormous benefits. Simply put, strategic planning determines where an organization is going over the next year or more, how it's going to get there and how it'll know if it got there or not. With a strategic plan in place, day-to-day decision making and problem solving will be directly related to long-range and short-term goals. Participants will understand the basic elements of a strategic plan, how strategic plans are evaluated, and when strategic plans are useful with funders and the entire organization.

 

 

Building a POWER Board - Strategies for Financial Success

This workshop will layout step by step instructions on how to build a board that focuses on raising dollars so non-profit organizations can focus on doing their work. Participants will get an inside peek at the good the bad and the ugly of board development and learn how to motivate board members to help you meet your mission.

At the conclusion of this session participants should be able to discuss different types of non-profit boards and how they can be used to strengthen the financial well being of your organization.

There are many ways to build a strong non-profit organization that serves your community. This workshop will focus on building your board for long lasting financial success. We will go over ways to engage community members in your mission and build strong alliances that will take you into the new decade. Come will questions, this workshop will allow time to work through issues related to your board and how you engage them.

 

The Generational Divide (Generational Communications)

The days of the one appeal fits all are over. Research indicates that people communicate based on their generational backgrounds as much as ethnicity and education. Each generation has distinct attitudes, behaviors, expectations, habits and motivational touch points. Understanding the basic characteristics of each generation can help you create a more tailored appeal or approach to your current, lapsed and future donors as well as create a more effective stewardship plan.

Take Away Points:

  • Understand that your prospect base is diverse generationally and communicates and responds differently. What works for one, may not work for another.
  • Volunteers in different generations will want to serve in different ways and be recognized differently.
  • Consider the generational differences when planning a special event and/or a stewardship program.

 


Partnership Marketing - The New Age of Raising Money

Mutually Beneficial Relationships Between Small Businesses and NonProfit Organizations
Presented by Janice Williams, St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore

This session will provide participants with strategies to engage the small business community in the work of nonprofit organizations. Small businesses are good corporate citizens and often seek engagement with nonprofits because they recognize that supporting nonprofit organizations is good business. They know that employees are proud to work for companies that care about the community and customers favor businesses that support organizations that provide services that are relevant to their lives and improve the quality of life in their community.

Nonprofits benefit greatly from the direct financial support of small businesses as well as their donations of time and talent as board members, committee members, in-kind donors of goods and services, and volunteers. Small businesses benefit from relationships with nonprofits that showcase their support. This session will provide strategies for offering win-win marketing opportunities to small businesses through support of special events, cobranding literature and merchandise, and volunteer involvement.

Planned Giving in the Annual Fund World

Do you coordinate your planned giving mailings and your annual fund solicitations? Do you use your annual fund appeals as a vehicle to promote your planned giving opportunities? The truth is that your loyal annual donors are your most likely planned giving prospects. At Mizzou, we work in tandem with our planned giving office in creating a plan that meets the needs of both divisions. This includes everything from creating a complementary calendar to joint mailings, and planned giving survey calling. This presentation will share with you some of our more successful projects.

  • Think strategically on how to incorporate Annual Fund with Planned Giving.
  • Your donor only sees your organization, not the divisions within it. So create a more complete picture for your donor in your appeals.
